David has extensive experience and expertise in strategic planning, change management, financial management and public policy development. He is a chartered accountant and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has worked in commerce, the Not-for-profit Sector and the public sector during a career spanning 25 years. Most recently, David was Assistant Auditor General in Western Australia and is currently Director of the Curtin Not-for-profit Initiative in addition to being a Director of BaxterLawley.

Following a career in various senior roles, including as CEO and CFO, David consulted and has worked in the Not-for-profit sector in the UK, where he also taught at the London School of Economics. He holds a PhD in Economics and has published as a journalist and academic writer in relation to various aspects of policy and practice in the Not-for-profit and public sectors.

He is chair of Nulsen Disability Services, chair of the Independent Centre for Applied Not-for-profit Research (ICANR) a member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) Academic Advisory Panel and a member of Chartered Accountants Australian New Zealand’s National Not-for-profit Advisory Panel.
